The 5 types of Self Care
People sometimes think of self-care as self-indulgence, picturing themselves lazing in a bubble bath, and while relaxation can undoubtedly be an essential aspect of self-care, it is far more than that. Self-care is the holistic practice of taking the best care of yourself, physically, mentally, and more. It can look like going for a jog even when you don’t feel like it because you know you will feel better in the long run. Practising self-care gives you coping mechanisms for dealing with difficult life circumstances. Did you know there are 5 types of self-care?
- Physical: Making lifestyle decisions that keep you active, healthy, and energised.
-
Emotional; becoming aware of our feelings in order to bring awareness to our emotional needs. This awareness enables us to process our emotions in a healthy way, concentrating on the good feelings and controlling the bad ones.
- Professional; Taking actions that promote your success at work while preserving a positive work-life balance.
-
Spiritual; Getting in touch with your inner human spirit and soul is the act of practising spiritual self-care. Such as; donating money or volunteering for causes you believe in; practise meditation; spending time in nature; reading or watching inspirational material; praying if applicable to you. etc
- Mental: Maintaining your mental health by being mindful of your thoughts and emotions. Your internal dialogue and the way you communicate with yourself greatly influence how you view yourself and the outside world.
